Seniors' unique perspective on technology

The quickening development of technology

The rate of technological advancement in the modern world is amazing. For instance, my parents have recently made great strides. They've finally moved away from the warped expression of Facebook and started using more contemporary terms like "Amstramgram". However, their explorations of the online world don't end there.

Snapchat's introduction and Mom's discoveries

With the introduction of Snapchat, it seems like we've gone backward. For instance, my mother has learned how to use Snapchat filters and has asked me how to give her a dog face like mine. Though technology advances, she keeps up.

Mom, king or queen of social media

Social networks have made my mother incredibly popular. She makes embarrassing comments on my Facebook pictures, mistaking them for text messages. She also once questioned her son about why he hadn't responded to her YouTube comment. She doesn't comprehend that he must cope with tens of thousands of comments.

My grandparents' artistic endeavors

But in comparison to my grandparents, that is nothing. They manipulate technology in an artistic way. It became a cult moment when my grandmother used her nose to take a picture with my phone. And even though she now has a smartphone of her own, she continues to call FaceTime secretly, which leads to odd interactions.

Seniors' unique perspective on technology

Older folks view technology differently than younger people. On her most recent smartphone, my grandma prefers to play card games to 3D games or the newest wireless technologies. She even broke my $200 pair of wireless headphones by throwing them away after discovering that the cords had worn out.

Age-related problems in call centers

With all the connectors and cords, she found installing her internet box to be a challenge. I can't help but feel bad for the call center agents who have to explain technology to senior clients. Although difficult, it must be done by someone.

Despite all the challenges, we must acknowledge that the elderly have something that most of us only want to possess: a 90% battery at 16 hours. We might experience the same luck if we called them more frequently.
